Did Tesla pass Waymo in Austin robotaxi miles?
Published . Updated . Tesla Passes Waymo. Elon: "Never a Real Contest".
What is the short answer?
No. Waymo reports 21.064 million rider-only miles in Austin through June 2026, and Tesla reports 2,118,015 autonomous miles in Austin through October 18, 2026. Waymo's total rider-only miles through June 2026 are 271.3 million. Tesla's safety report shows 3.1 million autonomous miles from January 22 through October 18, 2026, across six cities, and those miles include remote assistance. The periods and the definitions do not match, and a weekly Austin chart discussed on the episode is not a line in either report.

What did the episode report?
Each line is a news item stored with this episode. The date is the day the video was published. Timing words in a line are copied from the episode.
Waymo's safety impact hub says the company drove 271.3 million rider-only miles through June 2026, including 21.064 million in Austin. Rider-only miles are miles with no human driver. That Austin total runs through June 2026. It is not an October week.
Tesla's robotaxi safety report lists 2,118,015 autonomous miles in Austin, 608,130 in Dallas, 225,964 in Houston, 46,262 in Miami, 61,053 in Orlando, and 53,117 in Tampa, and 3.1 million in total, for January 22 through October 18, 2026. It says 2.95 million of those miles were in Austin, Dallas, and Houston. The report counts miles with no safety monitor in the vehicle, including when a remote operator is assisting or has taken control. That Austin total is not a single week, and it is not the same count as Waymo's rider-only miles.

Tesla's robotaxi page says people can already hail a car in Austin, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Orlando, and Tampa. The safety report does not say that every mile in all six cities had no remote assistance.
The episode discussed Tesla and Waymo service areas of roughly 600 and 307 square miles. Tesla's robotaxi safety report and Waymo's safety impact hub publish miles driven. They do not state those square-mile figures.

Turo said on October 26, 2026 that guests in the United States will be able to search for and book Tesla vehicles with FSD (Supervised) starting October 28, and that FSD status is checked through a connection to Tesla. Turo describes the feature as driver assistance. An October 20 start date discussed on the episode is not the date in Turo's release.
On its October 22, 2026 earnings call, Tesla said it would launch in Dallas the following month, and that the same software would scale to other cities along with its Model Y robotaxis. Tesla also said it expected to release that software to customers as part of the v15 release pretty soon. A parking-lot photo discussed on the episode is not a Cybercab count in the call or in the robotaxi safety report.

CNBC reported on October 26, 2026 that Barclays upgraded Tesla to overweight from equal weight and raised its price target to $450 from $370, citing talk of a combination with SpaceX. That target is the bank's opinion. It is not a Tesla forecast and not a merger price.
From the show discussion
These lines restate points from the show discussion. They are not a Brighter Finance forecast, and they are not investment advice.
- The discussion argued that the Austin totals the two companies publish do not show Tesla ahead of Waymo, and that a weekly chart on the episode is not a matched figure in either report.
- The discussion argued that miles counted with remote assistance are not the same figure as rider-only miles with no human driver.
- The discussion argued that a supervised rental, a company robotaxi fleet, and customer Cybercabs are separate steps.
- The discussion argued that a 30% chance of a public FSD version 15 before year-end is a forecast from the episode, not the timing Tesla stated on its earnings call.
