Did Giga Texas add a night shift?
Published . Updated . Giga Texas Is Gearing Up for Something Big.
What is the short answer?
Joe Tegtmeyer said on November 2, 2026 that it did, with day and night shifts of about 12 hours. Tesla has not confirmed the change. Teslarati, citing that update, said the usual multi-day production stops around Thanksgiving and from Christmas to New Year are not in the current plan. The episode treated the extra hours as support for Model Y and Model Y L. On the April 22, 2026 earnings call, Tesla described the research chip fab on the Giga Texas campus as probably a $3 billion initiative, capable of maybe a few thousand wafers a month, and separate from the larger Terafab phase it said SpaceX would lead. A November 5 report said steel work was continuing on that research building.

What did the episode report?
Each line is a news item stored with this episode. The date is the day the video was published. Timing words in a line are copied from the episode.
Teslarati reported on November 5, 2026 that Joe Tegtmeyer, in a November 2 update, said Giga Texas had added a night shift, with day and night crews on shifts of about 12 hours, after a pattern he described as a single day shift of about 10 hours. He also said the plan, as of that update, was to skip the usual several-day shutdowns around Thanksgiving and from Christmas to New Year. Teslarati said Tesla has not confirmed the shift change and has not said which line receives the extra output. Giga Texas builds the Model Y, the Model Y L, the Cybertruck, and the Cybercab.
But now they're on day and night shifts and they're going to 12-hour days.

The episode said the additional hours are for the Model Y line and treated them as support for Model Y and Model Y L production. That is the episode's reading of the schedule. Tesla has not published a line assignment for the night shift, and Teslarati said the company has not specified which vehicles get the extra output.
On Tesla's April 22, 2026 earnings call, Elon Musk said Tesla would build the research fab on the Giga Texas campus, that it was expected to be probably a $3 billion initiative, capable of maybe a few thousand wafers per month, and that it was meant to try out ideas. He said SpaceX would take care of the initial phase of the scaled-up Terafab, and that arrangements between the companies still had to be approved by both boards. The research fab and the larger Terafab project are different facilities in that answer.
This is something we expect to be probably a $3 billion-ish initiative, and capable of maybe a few thousand wafers per month.

The same Teslarati report said the Advanced Technology Chip Fab, which it described as a SpaceX and Tesla research facility at the site, was continuing steel superstructure work, heavy truss installation, and concrete pours in Tegtmeyer's November 2 footage. Visible construction is not a wafer already produced. The April call's timing for useful output was still a later step.

Not a Tesla App reported on October 30, 2026 that Tesla's U.S. Full Self-Driving (Supervised) referral program was live. It said an eligible owner can give another eligible owner one month of FSD (Supervised). If that person subscribes during the trial, a referring subscriber earns one free month, and an owner who bought FSD outright earns a $99 Tesla credit. It said rewards are capped at 12 times per calendar year. Those are the terms as that report describes Tesla's support page. A referral cap is not a count of how many trials become paid subscriptions. The episode said that paid conversion rate is not known.

The episode described Tesla job listings for cutting Optimus gears with tools the company designs, along with robot assembly, quality control, and data collection. This note did not open a Tesla careers posting that states those duties, so the listing claim stays a report from the episode. A job listing is not a delivery date for Optimus.
From the show discussion
These lines restate points from the show discussion. They are not a Brighter Finance forecast, and they are not investment advice.
- The discussion argued that a reported night shift is not a production total the company has disclosed.
- The discussion argued that extra hours described for Model Y and Model Y L are an interpretation, not a line assignment in a company update.
- The discussion argued that the research chip fab and the larger Terafab project are different facilities.
- The discussion argued that Cybertruck demand, and any talk of winding that production down, remains a risk rather than a disclosed plan.
- The discussion argued that a referral reward does not show how many trials become paid subscriptions.
